How should I compensate caregivers for mom? Mom is in memory care. There is a "group fund" that I've been asked to contribute to -- where families contribute and it is equally divided among all staff caregivers + funds special outings/parties. How much would you suggest I give to that and should I additionally give gift cards/other personally to all staff. This is my first year and looking for advice for the norm.

I would look to guidance from senior administrative staff about what the "range" is. I would err on the high end if you can afford it. Bring in home baked treats or do a pizza night for the staff on your mom's unit

Lol those are good suggestions, sugary unhealthy baked goods.

Seriously, whether they admit it or not can accept it or not, many want money.

Yes, I'd check on their policies. I think that in some states, there are laws about what the staff can accept in the way of money or anything that is not nominal in the form of a gift. What I have done is take homemade fudge and a small gift card to the staff and administration that I deal with and who is involved with my LO's care. I don't really deal with the kitchen and maintenance staff, though, so, I'm considering this year, taking some boxes of pastries a week or so before Christmas, with enough for all to share. I'd be interested in any ideas that others have as well.

Check with the facilities gift giving policy. When I worked as a CNA we were not to accept gifts of any kind. My mother’s SNF they sent out a flyer for donations for holiday tipping. If you would like to drop off a tray of cookies, bagels, something that is easy and quick for staff to eat. Where I am I take a box of soft pretzel bites.
