captain is right, bedbugs target humans, they are blood suckers, like fleas. They hide in mattress seams and along baseboards. There are good sprays with cedar oil and lavender or geranium or citronella that repel bugs. Those are preferable to traditional pesticides. Diatomaceous earth is good too, followed by thorough and daily vacuuming of every couch, rug and mattress. Any clothes on the floor must be laundered. Sheets and blankets washed weekly. pillows tossed into the dryer on HIGH for 20 minutes. Shower and shampoo often. A lot of work, but you can win if you are persistent.
No way would I ever get the government involved in a situation where they could force me to move out of my home. The health department doesn't need to have assess to your home. You are inviting disaster. Take care of the problem yourself or find yourself homeless and your kids in a foster home.
