Mom is 91, dementia, wheelchair bound. Her living expenses are 1600 a month. She gets $2200 through social security and VA combined.

VA won't help for in-home care and I was told since she is house bound- that disqualified her under Medicare and she doesn't qualify for IHSS either because her income is too high.

Is there truly no help for the lowest mid-income elderly?

Is she the widow of a Veteran, or a Veteran herself? Is she getting a VA pension, or Aid and Attendence benefits? I'm trying to bump this question to the top, so we get you some answers.

Nana2Nanny, any reason why Mom continues to live at home when the VA can help her if she moves to a nursing home? I see from your profile that your Mom lives with you. How long have you been caregiving for your Mom?
