Does your elderly person have Medicare Part D? That is Medicare prescription coverage. If not I think there is an open enrollment period every year & not sure there is a premium with Part D. Someone on this forum will know more information. You can ask her/his doctor to substitute any expensive prescription with a less expensive med that is similar in action. Walmart has a list of there $4 prescriptions on their website - you can take the list with you to her MD's office and discuss this with him/her. I don't know if there are any means to get help to pay for prescriptions but again there are much more knowledgeable folks on this forum that will offer suggestions.
I have also heard of some USA seniors ordering their meds online from Canada. I understand its a lot cheaper. I would also consider talking to a social worker and see what other supports might be available in the community.
