One of you was confused mistaken or lying. The first thing that comes to mind is was it another man and someone you recognized?
I would suggest there is more to this story than meets the eye. It takes more than a simple mistaken identity to put a marriage on the rocks.

If you feel the need certainly get tested especially if you have been having memory problems, forgetting where you left things on a constant basis. Do you remember the names of people you know well especially relatives. When you are driving do you make silly mistakes like hitting curbs and getting scratches and dents. Can you keep you financial papers in order, balance the check book and pay bills?

If you pass all tests with flying colors then is the time to work on your wife's cognative health

You need to start with a complete physical from your regular doctor to rule out treatable things like UTIs, Parkinsons and a host of other things. Then move on to an assessment of your mental and cognitive state.

I'm so sorry that this is happening to you!! Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

It never hurts to be tested. Do you have any other close friends or family who you can have a serious chat with about your concerns to get their perspective?
