My boyfriends mom is 71 years old and is a fall risk and has Alzheimer's should I help give her a bath if I don't feel comfortable doing so.

Find Care & Housing
Rosechild I saw your post explaining why you're caring for this lady. You're a good person in a tight spot.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to look up your local social services for older people and get advice from a social worker. It isn't that there's anything wrong at all with your being willing to help this lady, but given that you've only been part of the family for six months, plus you're not (are you?) an experienced caregiver, I don't think it's fair or reasonable for you to be made responsible for her welfare. Help, yes, of course; that would be very kind of you; but don't try to deal with the situation alone. It's too much, and it might risk turning out badly for both you and your boyfriend's mother. Best of luck, please come back and tell us how you're getting on.

Rosechild, it doesn't seem to me that, because your boyfriend went to jail, you have to legal obligation to care for his mother. Social services should be notified that her caregiver was incarcerated and that she's an adult who can no longer care for herself. Find out who your local Area Agency on Aging is and call them today.

I would consider the consequences of stepping in to be the caretaker for a dementia patient. It's a huge responsibility. I would try to summon help for her though.
