Where Alzheimer's is a buildup up plaques, Lyme is a breakdown of the protective myelin sheaths. There have been several studies that found a strong link between Lyme disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.90% of ALS patients had a history of Lyme Disease. Both the CDC and the NIH have ongoing research and clinical trials.

Judith Miklossy did some very interesting research on borrrelia and Alzheimer's infact her Alzheimer's research is ground breaking and should be read by anyone who has a family member sufferring with Alzheimer's
Interestingly this research is going down a similar route looking at infections/pathogens as a cause of Alzheimer's

BDB:

I believe the study belongs to Alan McDonald, M.D.. Go to this link for more information: http://www.molecularalzheimer.org/ Also, do a Google search on "similarities lyme disease and alzheimer's". You'll find a lot more that way. Good luck.
