Sometimes I suspect these resources are offered as a way to have more care given by outside people so that the home doesn't have to have as many care givers on duty. If Medicare pays for a physical therapist to come take my mom for a walk for example, the care givers don't need to leave the house to give my mom some exercise. However, if the A Wiser Mind people would be helpful for my mom I would be very glad for that.

Your mom is living inside an assisted living facility? If so, then if zero physical therapy or cognitive therapy is provided on site, then hire local legitimate therapists.

A wiser mind is another junk resource that takes federal dollars to do nothing. So, I would pass on it. nope nope.

I have never heard of this. If it is something you need to pay for I would pass on it as there is something new out there every second to take the money from us, and aging is big business now. There is honestly no way to improve dementia other than the little tricks that everyone knows right away, and they are very individual. I hope there are some on the forum who have heard of this and can give you their direct experience of it. Activities are lovely, but so is money, and there seems to be no end now of things to take the latter from us.

The way I read their website, its therapy for the brain. Info for family and caregivers to understand dementia better. I don't see where u would get an aide to take the place of an AL aide. Its a fairly new business. I would wander what their credentials are? What is their educational background. Are psychiatrists involved. Do u pay for it? I would bet the AL gets a kick back for recommending them and you excepting.

There comes a stage of Dementia that nothing can be done.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I did look them up and get brochures, but I can't really see anything they are doing that would help my mom more than what I do and the people at assisted living do. Thanks.

The caregivers at the ALFs here do not take residents for walks or provide them with exercise of any kind. The caregivers change wet beds or wet Depends, help the residents transfer, help them with meds (if they are QMAPS), help with showers, teeth brushing and perform helpful functions of that nature. We use the physical therapists on site to provide exercise and therapy for my mother. If the doc approves PT, Medicare pays a portion of each session and secondary insurance pays another, and mother pays the rest. The ALF also has regular exercise classes daily which residents can choose to participate in. The ALF also offers other optional on site services at extra costs like salon, nail clipping, traveling dentist, etc. I've never heard of A Wiser Mind.......but if dementia is involved, its likely a waste of money. Mother is now in memory care which gears activities towards dementia residents, and most of them sleep right through them!
