Has anyone had a loved one over 90 years old break a major bone and be able to return home after rehab?

Yes, my Father was 91 when he fell and broke his hip. My Father has Alzheimer's Decease. He lived alone but had a routine that he could follow until I arrived. In June of 2018, we allowed my niece and husband stay with him with the understanding they would take care of him. Of course, I was there with him everyday. In September of that year, he fell and broke his hip. After being released from the hospital, he was in rehab for only 14 days. He went back home and continued rehab that was outsourced. My niece and her husband did good taking care of him through December. They started to neglect him starting in January. I don't think he would have been able to live by himself if they hadn't been there after he went home. We had to put him in a nursing home and we got rid of those people. It wasn't just that they neglected him, there were a considerable number of things that happened until we were forced to evict them.

I would have had to stay with him 24/7 until he got better if they hadn't been there. At first I felt guilty. But, he's in a home about 5 minutes from my house. He really likes it there. He just keeps asking for a ride home until I mention that the virus is still out there.

Hello - my mom fractured her back in her early 90's and her wrist when she was about 94 years old. She went to rehab for both instances and actually went home to live after she fully recovered. In the next 2 years her memory was failing and I had her come to live with me in 2020. She will be 98 years old on Friday, Nov. 4 and has fun and a loving family atmosphere here. Luckily, I retired soon after she came to live with us so care giver expenses are only for about 10 hours a week for me to do errands. Note that elderly people get scared and depressed unless they see family and have a consistent schedule. Please have her come live with you if you can.

Yes, my mother broke her hip at 90, had it surgically repaired, went through rehab and lived on her own in her own house for the next 5 years until she passed away.
