I looked at a photo of my aunt Lorraine today that was taken on Easter (my mother's sister) on Facebook and she looks rough. She is thin (lost a lot of weight), no expression, withdrawn same blank stare as my father. I am very shocked. She was a vibrant woman with 8 children, a loving husband and a hard worker. Now she is a shell of herself and I fear she doesnt have much longer . I won't say much to the daughters, but she has all the same symptoms of my mother. Both my parents got dementia . I am beside myself. .

Find Care & Housing
My Moms siblings died at 53,heart. 60 and 79 from lung cancer. Mom lived till 89, 6 years with Dementia. Her Mom died at 43, cancer and her Dad at 60. So no one lived long enough for a Dementis diagnosis. Mom never smoked or drank. She saw her Dr regularly.

Now my Dad, his Mom and Aunt had ALZ. Out of 8 children my GM had 2 were diagnosed with ALZ. Others died early so not sure if they would have had it. The Aunt had 3 children and the daughter had it. ALZ does run in families.

I spoke with her daughter Last summer and she definitely has dementia quite Possibly Alzheimers and we discussed what was happening sounded just Like My Dad . How ever when I Look at her she reminds me of My Mother . Losing a ton of weight , no expression , Looks withdrawn - Nothing Like she use to be . My Fathers siblings Mostly died young . He had a Older brother who His daughter told me " became very mean and Bitter towards the end . " I know my grand Mother had Parkinson's and a Cousin got Parkinsons on my Mothers side . I last saw Lorraine July 2021 - she seemed fine . I fear the worst for her . her Husband Looks great - he is still full of Life . I will probably Bump into the daughter this summer again and get a Update .

I'd say basically that with aging, each senior is about as individual as his or her own thumbprint. Difficult to tell exactly what's going on with as little contact as you have with this aunt and family. Hard to assess from photos and anecdotes. She is surrounded by her family. There's little you can do.

K, do you know if both parents of these siblings had dementia?
Some dementias do tend to run in families and have some hereditary components; some less so, if you look them up.
If you speak with one of the man children of your aunt I would bet you find she is suffering from the same decline her sister had, but hard to tell from just a photo. I mean we all age, and none of us get the prettier for it! Some of us are more photogenic than others as well; I come off always looking quite SEVERE. Perhaps I AM quite severe?
