Allowing window visits would only encourage people to ignore stay at home orders. Be patient. The sooner we all stay at home, the sooner we will see an end to this.
I saw a facility on the news that was allowing HORSES to visit residents at their windows! It must have been at least 8 horses on the grounds! I wondered how they had the time to coordinate that kind of project. Perhaps, it was a one time thing. It sure did look like fun though.
My parents facility shut down window and porch visits last weekend. Too many demands on already busy staff. It’s for their safety and the safety of the community. It has nothing to do with rent. My parents pay pay close to $9000 each monthly.
"Window visits" tend to cause a lot of commotion. The care giver needs to get involved to round up the resident, bring him to the window, etc., when that is not always possible due to other demands on her time. Working in a Memory Care setting, when a family member came for a 'window visit', it caused me (the receptionist) to coordinate the meeting and then guide the family member to where the resident would be located, window-wise, on the grounds. In other words, it took a lot of time when a lot of time wasn't available. Short handed staff in trying times does not lend itself well to such a request. And again, the staff's main goal is to keep the residents safe by imposing restrictions of all kinds. In my mother's place, they're now making the residents wear face masks when they come out of their rooms (each time). My mother is fit to be tied over the matter (she has dementia) and the practice seems a bit much, considering the residents' state of mind...........but again, it's for their protection. It has nothing to do with how much rent is being paid, and everything to do with safety. Perhaps if you call the facility they can explain their logic to you. I can only explain things from my own perspective.

This is a very good point. Many facilities are losing staff, either to illness or fear of illness, so window visits add a burden to already overtaxed workers. Thanks for the reminder.
My husband is in a SNF for rehab after breaking his shoulder; last week one of the workers tested positive for Covid-19, and now, in addition to other precautionary measures, window visits have been discontinued. (We are in northern Michigan; locally, coronavirus cases are few, but the Detroit area is extremely hard hit, so most of the state is practicing an abundance of caution.)
Paying rent doesn’t entitle one to endanger the lives of the other residents. There’s no reason to wonder why the facility isn’t being accommodating-we are in the middle of a damn pandemic and they have residents to protect. That is why most of not all facilities are totally locked down to visitors.
