Can anyone help me? He sits in his chair and suddenly and quickly goes into movement of his hands and tells me he is building something...just lost a sign board and is looking for it alongside his recliner. His facial expressions are like really concern and deep thought...turns to the wall next to his recliner and talks to people. What is going on?

Oh Oregongirl I know just how you feel. My sister and I are just beginning to adjust to our mom not being in that little body. The person in there most of the time is not her. We have placed her in long term care facility, which is very good to her, even though she fights it when she has her lucid moments. Unfortunately they come less and less these days. Hang in there. We support you!

Pamstegma and Freaky Thank you for your responses on Hallucinations. I thought the same thing about Lewy Body Dementia. This just makes me SO sad. I was so hopeful that my love would be that one person who would get through Alzheimer without any symptoms. Boy was I dreaming. I hate this. One minute he is fine and the next he cannot reason anything. We received a letter today regarding his Required Minimum Distribution for his Annuity. I spent an hour trying to explain to him it was not a bill for payment. I finally, knelt by him and said, Honey, remember you chose me to make sure the financial picture was taken care of. You have to trust me. He admitted ...Yes, you are smart, I know you will. I wanted to cry. He was the kind of person who planned well and because of that, I will be OK. As long as I don't have to send him to a memory care unit. They will eat us alive. But, I would rather have him in his normal mind. Is it wrong for me to say I would rather he go home now than to suffer this illness any more? For some reason I do not feel guilty about that feeling. Is it true that they do not know they are loosing their memory? What does he know? Can anyone answer me that? This is so sad. I don't mean to go on as I know many of you are also suffering with the same feelings. I am so thankful you are there and that I can turn to this site at this time.

Check out Lewy Body dementia. There are distinct symptoms, and my mom has all of them.

Oregongirl, it sounds like the Alzheimer's is reaching the hallucinating phase. As long as they are happy visions, I would humor him. My grandfather saw "dancing girls" and movies on the garage. Lucky him.

Well, he takes two anti-depression meds and just started on Gabapentin 300 mg. At first the Gabapentin made him very very sleepy. But after about two days, he was no longer in pain and was happier. He was already starting the building of things or trying to find things before he was on the Gabapentin.
