My son and I live with my 88-year-old mother. It has helped all of us survive in this current economic climate. My problem is this: she tries to make me feel guilty when I want to go out with friends without her (or for that matter, go anywhere without her). I need to know how to handle this situation. My father passed away 2 years ago and it seems that I am expected to fill in the void. I am becoming very resentlful because she has no friends here in town. What words can you give me to tell her I want some freedom? I am working at a very low-paying job and trying to get another one, which adds to my stress.
