Today upon my visit to the rehab facility my grandmother was gonna be discharged to head home with the in-home care service. But today they wanted to the use the hoyer lift, which reminds me of an engine hoist if you were to do a engine swap on a car, so the nurses tried to get her to get on it and she refused. And today is shower day- they wanted to give her a shower and refused. If she were to come home, that isn't gonna work. She is gonna fight every step of the way with an in house caregiver. I had to make the call of keeping her long term knowing she's safe and not alone in a house with a possibility of a bad fall or worse. In my eyes I don't feel she is fit to head home so I have a lot to work on with the guardianship and the house. This is so tough for one person to deal with, but I'm keeping strong is all I can do.

I think there was some “Devine intervention” at play today. You were there and witnessed the hoyer debacle and the shower fiasco. You were meant to see this. And you made the best decision on her behalf based on that. Every day I hope I can make good decision for my Mom. Good job!

When the social worker showed me what the hoyer lift was I knew it was gonna be disastrous from the start the two nurses trying to help tried all they could

Ugh. I’m sorry. I know you wanted to bring her home and you were working so hard toward that end. But you know what, this isn’t your fault. You tried. Grandma just can’t live in her home any longer. If she’s contrary at the rehab, she will be so at home with the caregivers too. Then it works out that she’s firing the caregivers and making life miserable for everyone, especially you. At least your work on the house has gotten it ready to sell if it comes to that.

The house has a ways to go I did buy a new oven thus far I will have to get new electrical wiring new windows,new flooring in the kitchen, downstairs bathroom and upstairs bathroom new paint job I gotta take patience even try to redo the basement home depot will be my best friend for awhile

She has to know its for her safety it would be a challenge if she was to return home

You totally made the right decision. We use a Hoyer lift with my dad, who is small in size and totally compliant. It would be so scary with someone who wasn't cooperating.

It was a very tough decision I'll tell ya. This was not easy now I gotta figure out about the house I rent a apartment so I'm into my new lease till June 2019 so I do wanna hear from the lawyer that's doing the guardianship what I should do should I have to break my lease to move to the house and fix it up to at least up the value if I was to sell it

If she goes on Medicaid, see if you can sell it “as is”. People are really into flipping houses now. A lot of what you spend you won’t get back.

As as far as the Hoyer, I know exactly what happened. I have one for Hubby too. He’s about 325lbs. It takes everything I have to pump it up ( we should have gotten the electric one). He’d freak the first few times until he figured out he wouldn’t fall out of it. Like Shad said, she’s gonna give ‘em heck at the SNF.
