Hi Everyone,

Know I posted on July 19th about my TIA, but now have something going on that does concern me. Since August 11th I have been rocking side to side. Did not feel it myself initially and still don't most of the time but my honey and his nurse have both noticed it. It is involuntary (only way I can stop it is to tighten up my muscles but can't stay tense all of the time) as is the periodic shaking in my left arm and hand. It started with an involuntary twitch in my left forefinger. Then this set in. Don't know if it is stress or neurological.

Any ideas y'all?

Dusti, go to the ER. Don't play around with this. If you drop dead -- just to be totally blunt -- who will take care of your partner then? Time to consult the pros about this situation. Thinking of you!

Hi Snoopy... Have an appointment set up with neuro in two weeks. If it gets any worse will definitely go to the ER. Thanks for thinking of me. I definitely agree. Not sure if dehydration, stress or neuro.

(((Dusti))), yes I would go in and get seen about for sure. Could you have an agency caregiver come in while you go get checked out? Expensive, I know, but it is worrying that you are having these worsening tremors. Maybe if you are able to get someone, that agency can have someone stay with him too in case you do get admitted, unless maybe there is a friend/family member/neighbor that could help.

Hugs and take care of yourself too. I hope you get some answers and get to feeling better.

Hi FrazzledMama… Can't have a caregiver come in due to finances and no family or neighbors that can help. Today is the first day that the tremors (full body) have lessened, but just got a sharp pain in my head and it has ramped up again...ugh!

Hope you are having a great weekend. Will keep you posted. (smile)

Hi Everyone... just a follow up.... Well the rocking and tremors have progressed to over all body tremors as well as the rocking....ugh! This seems to be worsening quickly. If not better or easing up may end up going to ER. Not sure who will take care of my honey or his IV's if they put me in though. This is what is making me hesitate.

It may be an essential tremor. This can be part of Parkinson's, stroke and several other conditions. A neurologist would be the place to start. You might check with your family doctor or the one who diagnosed/treated your TIA. They could recommend the next step. It's good to get a diagnosis as treatment may be available - and the sooner the better. Good luck.

I thought mom's too at first was maybe something like a tic when she gets nervous or anxious (she has anxiety too), or restless legs syndrome, but the more I noticed it and then asked her about it, she said she can't control it, like her legs just move on their own.

This movement started about 4 months ago. Mom has had a couple of TIAs in the past, and 7 years ago went into a diabetic coma and was in ICU for several days, and I think she may have sustained some vascular or nerve damage from all that, but neuro issues also run in her father's side of the family, which makes it even more complicated trying to figure it out.

She was having the opposite problem, muscle stiffness and Parkinson like symptoms early this year, but the neurologist took her off the antipsychotic med he thinks was causing it and those symptoms have improved, but now it's this leg movement that is causing her distress. It's a weird dance-like movement almost like when you have to pee. It causes a weird gait too when she walks.

Her MRI didn't show anything, but her psych doc said sometimes there can be issues that don't necessarily show up on a scan. Her neuro doc wants to see her back next month at the 6 month mark, so hopefully he will take a look at her legs and re-evaluate.

Hugs, I'm sorry you are dealing with this too, I know it has to be distressing, especially not knowing what it is. Hopefully your doc can figure it out and maybe there's a medication that would help.

I would make an appt with your neurologist. He/she may want to do an MRI and some additional testing. Could be medication related or nerve or neuro damage caused by the TIA. Let us know what you find out. My mom is experiencing this right now, but in her legs. Sort of a dancing like movement that seems worse when she is standing still. She says hers is involuntary too. We go back to the neurologist next month so hopefully we'll know more too.

Hi FrazzledMama…. I agree... with a dormant seizure disorder and the TIA's will have to check into it. No money for doctors right now, but may have to break down and go anyway. My honey asked me if I was doing it on purpose and I told him no...it is not something that I can control unless I tense up and stay that way. Then for only short periods....ugh.

I hope that the Neurologist can find out what is causing your Mom's movement. How long ago did hers start? A lot of the time I don't realize it is happening and then other times I can feel it. Please keep me posted.
