The hearing loss is from old age. No injuries. Hearing aids are not covered by any insurance and VA won't pay unless it's due to an injury during service. The cost we got was $6100. I know we can shop around, but it is still going to be very expensive.

Holey Moley, that is a lot of money. If Dad was a vet, I would call the nearest VFW or American Legion for help. Those service organizations will bend over backwards to help him and they have a network!!

The Lions Club has a program providing hearing aids but it's low income based.

Here's a link to another post on hearing aids, with good information on why another Veteran was unable to get assistance from the VA:

Our quotes were just as outrageous; one company wanted $4K per hearing aid, but it "generously" offered a discount of $1K per aid. Just hype and a marketing gimmick.

My father was a WWII vet, non combat, and received his hearing aids no charge. They were top notch hearing aids as well. He had hearing aids that were not very good, and when he received his hearing aids from the VA he said he heard things he hasn't heard in 20 years. He also lived with me and we were able to get a chair lift for our stairs, no charge as well! There are many things the VA offers, just have to ask.

My father received hearing aids from the va and his hearing loss was just due to age and not a service related injury. He is considered disabled (10%) by the va for a knee related injury. Hope this is helpful .
