Find Care & Housing
This is veering off topic slightly, but I'd be happy to pay the caregiver if they showed up and my mother either wasn't there, or sent them home with no notice. This actually happened for the first time earlier this week. The agency called me, let me know what happened, and informed me that they wouldn't accept this occuring again, since the caregiver wouldn't be able to be paid.
I didn't mention any of it to my mother, since she probably has Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and would love to try it again. I'm hoping this was a one-time thing.

Pam, I use to work homecare via an agency. It would be wonderful to be paid when clients are not available and they should be. Paying someone for services not rendered is considered fraud. So one is not paid a full day but may be paid an hour or two for travel time.

I agree call your agency. BUT.. we once notified the agency that we would be gone for a day due a family emergency, and they did not tell our CG.. She called the agency, they called me, I reminded then I had told them.. OPPS they paid CG for day as it was not her fault or ours. I really appreciated that she called! Its not her fault no one is there to care for if she is showing up!

Do not know why you are do overinvolved. The policy is that you call the agency if mo one answers. You must do this each time. If you tire of going out there then tell your agency to find another client for you. Your agency knows what steps they must take to make sure the client is safe and sound. You do not have to worry about that.

Were you able to enter the home and see that nobody was there? Our policy is to have the caregiver call the office and the office will reach out to the client and all emergency contacts. It may end up being an emergency situation where they need help and can't answer the door. It's always better to err on the side of safety.

Call the agency again to let them know your client isn't home again.

Why didn't the client call the agency? You've wasted 4 trips going to this persons house.

Why haven't you called your agency? The first time I rang the bell and got no answer I would have been on the phone with my agency before leaving the front porch.
