How to get my mom (90) with dementia to sleep?

My mom wakes up in middle of night, crying, saying wants to go to nursing home believing someone moved her furniture or stolen her stuff. I get no sleep. She starts crying and wanting to be gone talking hysterically nonscense, cannot reason. She's on low dose anti depressants now foe 2 weeks...help...

Your mom wakes up wanting to go to a nursing home? She says that? Would placing her in a nursing home be a realistic and happy solution?

You need to discuss this with her doctor. My mom is taking mirtazapine at bedtime specifically to help her sleep and it has worked well for us, your doc may want to tweak the dosage or try a different med. I also have had success adding using melatonin when she goes through the occasional restless phase, just 1/2 the 3mg tablet helps her sleep through the night.
