My mom is in an assisted living facility, and her income goes toward rent and medication, with nothing left over. I am paying for her living necessities and medical bills. How can I get help with this?
Many hospitals offer financial aid. Call the billing department and tell them your mom's situation. There are many forms to fill out, of course, but it's worth it. And I'm not talking about a payment plan for the bills, I'm talking about the hospital paying a percentage of the bill themselves (sometimes a very big percentage).
Talk to the facility management, most of them can find other sources of aid, such as VA if her husband was a wartime veteran. A good facility will help if you make them aware of the situation.
