What differences are there in symptoms, treatment, and progression of the disease?

Here is one helpful chart:

This is a good site on FTD:

https://www.theaftd.org/what-is-ftd/disease-overview/

FTD doesn’t tend to involve memory loss until late stages whereas with Alzheimer’s, memory loss is often a very early symptom.

FTD the only treatment is for symptoms. You can’t slow it in any way. Progression can be quite variable. Some people stay at one level for 10 years or more. Others progress quite quickly.

My dad’s neurologist said he had brain degeneration consistent with three types of dementia (Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia and FTD) but he diagnosed FTD based on my dad’s behavioral issues. I just mention this because it’s entirely possible to have more than one form of dementia at the same time. Good luck to you.

The internet is full of information for you.
I encourage you to research both forms of dementia, and try to figure what may pertain in the case you are interested in and what doesn't. You are the best judge of this. And again, there is so very much information online that it makes little sense for us to rewrite a well-written book. I sure wish you good luck ongoing. Learning about dementia is ongoing and a tough journey for us all.
