We had the same system as BarbB had. If you do get a lock box, do NOT get the kind that fits over a door handle. It can be sawed off. We tried it, and discovered that the caution was true. So we bought locks that were screwed into the studs next to the door.
Do your research before selecting an alarm. I contacted several, including the ones that advertise regularly in senior publications. Only one called me back promptly, and spent an hour or so discussing their program. It also provided burglar alarms, and had been in the security business for years.
One didn't call back for a few days; others just wanted to send brochures but not discuss their programs. They weren't considered.
If you need assistance getting up, I would get either a lock box outside your residence for a key OR a keypad lock, which you can give the code to the EMTs to.
