You do not provide enough information here. Is your friend in a hospital or Home? In general only SNFs that have the specially trained staff and/or certification can take them in. Those facilities can also reject based on other conditions (such as no use of restraints for 48 hours, need for dialysis, etc). There may also be a wait list or a wait period until all financials are complete. There are a variety of issues that need to be worked out.
If your friend is stuck in a hospital, believe me, they are working on the situation.
If it is transition from home to SNFs, I personally know of a mother who had a stroke while caring for a vent dependent adult son, it is now 2 years and she is still waiting for a bed opening for an appropriate placement
