Medicaid is an "needs" based entitlement program which means you have to be able to show need BOTH financially and medically for a service. For Medicaid NH, they have to be impoverished for assets (roughly 2K in non exempt assets) within whatever your state has for the maximum monthly income (like for TX it was $ 2,064 when I did my mom's NH Medicaid application) AND MUST medically require skilled nursing care as per a MD orders with documentation. Just being old and needing help with ADL's may not qualify for Medicaid to pay for a NH.

Each state administers Medicaid uniquely but within an overall federal guideline.
Your state should have on the website of it's Dept of Health & human Services or Dept of Aging or whatever they are called in your state as to what programs are out there and the qualifiers.

Medicaid eligibility is based solely on income. You can check online or apply at a welfare office in your state.
