History 1st. When my dad in law died my mom in law had a break from reality. She lived alone, has health issues (diabete), can't drive and the family (daughter, adult grandson & adult grand daughter) that lived in town were too busy to bother with her. When she had her episode (hallucinations) sister eldest daughter called my hubby wanting to commit her. Previously only involvement came when she needed $. Hubby would not agree to commitment. He is RN and said the symptoms sounded like loneliness & uncontolled sugar levels. I flew in and went with her to med appt. her doctor said the same thing and said he would not agree to committing. I told the siblings this and told them that a large part of her condition was the loneliness and the need for them to get involved. That didnt go well. Hubby & I are unable to move at this time but brother in law (disabled vet, unmarried) gave up his life in another state and moved in with Mother. Huge improvement in her health because of his unselfishness. Mother has a neighbor that helps watch Mother whe he wants to visit his friends he left on occasional weekends away. We are convinced that they only wanted to commit because they wanted to sell house and gain $. So to Mother's aunt. She is several years older than Mother who is 80. Similar story. Wealthy, lonely, and developed dementia. She lived out of state. She and mother were extremely close (like sisters growing up). Received a call from aunts neighbor that she had fallen in the house and they found her on day 3. Mother's oldest daughter (#1) (e one that wanted to commit mother) swooped in, transported aunt to daughter #2 (also wanted to commit) who lives 6 hours away. Daughter #2 says she is caring for aunt, daughter #1 has POA and control of all assets. Mother keeps asking to see and talk to aunt and has been denied repeatedly. Daughter #1's husband is driving aunt's car only God knows what has happened to aunts other assets. Aunt had told mother a few years ago that she had bought 2 CDs for mother ($25,000) each. Daughter #1 says she only found 1. Mother suspects she cashed the other. Mother says she doesn't care about the material things and just wants to see her aunt. How can we find out where she is and if she is okay? Daughter #2 won't let her talk on phone and will not give permission to visit.

Find Care & Housing
Something's fishy about this situation. Is there any way you could pay a visit and see what's going on? So the aunt doesn't have any immediate family of her own to care for her or guard her assets? This is really awful that people would do this to a vulnerable relative. I wish I had an answer for you. I hope you can find out if she's ok!

The sister-in-law won't answer me when we try to find out where the aunt is. You are right it is horrible. My mother-in-law is the closest living relative and her daughters won't tell her anything.
