Find Care & Housing
Please try to look at the state's DHHS site for SNF yearly audits for compliance for "problem" areas. The chain mentioned had a 900,000K judgement against it in 2008 for compromising the care of an elderly resident at one of their facilities.

Does where she is now have some medicaid beds but you are being told that there are none available, e.g. the 10 medicaid beds are occupied and all the others that are available are private pay? If that is the case, then you can try the "transfer trauma" route for having her stay. TT can work if the facility can provide the service that she needs and would be doing it if she was a private pay or in one of the medicaid slots. You would need to work with her doctors to her evaluated and get letters done for this, not the doctors working for the facility. Again, you can go to the state's website to find out what the facilities medicaid bed status is or if they are truly 100% private pay. Good luck.

Campbell, FYI, Avamere is a chain of asst.living/memory care/retirement places so there may be one nearer to you. I can think of at least 3 off the top of my head. Also, I think Rosewood takes Medicare too. They were our second choice at the time.

Thanks naheaton! I will look up Avamere as you suggest. I appreciate hearing from someone local who is experienced at this. I welcome any further input from those of you in the know! thanks again, Campbell

Campbell, I live in Beaverton Oregon. Have you checked out any of the Avamere asst living places? They take Medicare, unlike the place my mother-in-law is in which does not. Start calling around and find out who does and who doesn't take Medicare. We almost went with Avamere, but chose a smaller place instead here in Beaverton. Good luck.

I am seeking a facility for my 89 yo mom who has dementia and diabetes but who is very easy to care for with a great disposition in the Mcminnville/Portland, OR vicinity where private pay AND medicaid are accepted. She is currently private pay but will run out of funds soon. She will need assistance with meds and grooming. thank you
