Could I suggest that you fill in a few more details on your profile? I'm in the UK, so nothing I say is likely to be relevant to your situation; whereas other people reading may be familiar with your state, with what is usual locally, and even perhaps with other facilities that might be a better fit for your husband.

The only thing I would say is that, even setting aside the major cost implications for single occupancy rooms, there are still two schools of thought on this point. It's a question of balancing privacy and companionship. Of course we all need privacy, but it is also true that if you are alone in an unfamiliar place you can all too easily feel isolated and lonely - so having shared rooms isn't only done on grounds of cost or profit.

But you know your husband best. I hope that other readers will soon be along with practical ideas for you.

Louise, are you the person staying in a (shared?) room, or is it someone you care for?
