Gatlinburg, TN: 81 yrs old, a veteran, not confined to bed, but he does have medical needs (heart and prostate) that require expensive prescriptions...just as important, caring for him occupies nearly all my time. SS benefits are his only asset, so finding financial assistance soon is a must! At this time, I prefer caring for him in my home.

His doctor can order visiting nurses, who will come to the house and evaluate what he needs. Go to va.gov and check for benefits. You will need his service record. VA has an Aid and Attendance benefit that may help you.

Hi, You can file for veteran benefits aid and attendance benefits. You can google va benefits aid and attendance and find the forms that you have to fill out. There is alot of paperwork to do. You will need military record showing his number in the military and the dates he served. You will need his social security award letter that you get at the end of the year that tells you his social security income. You also need a form from va that the doctor fills out after a physical describing thier health problems and being homebound. I sent all application in on Oct 30th and I have not heard yet if she qualifies or not. They say it can take up to 6 months or more depending on who you get to evaluate your application. It is worth it because you can get awarded almost $2000. My mom only has social security and no assets and this will help her. It is a big process but you can do it.
