They don't even make sure that she eats 3 meals everyday she is always hungry and I take her food all the time she wants to buy her own little refridgerator for her room . but for the money she pays thats not right . There supposed to make sure every person gets plenty of food that they need she keeps loosing weight. How do these places get away with all the neglect and just keep taking their money.? I have pictures that would probably shut them down if exposed then everyone pays for it because they all get moved around but this is gne way too far and needs to be investagated now? where or who do i go to?

DAZYGIRL, what is the reason your mother doesn't go to the dining room at meal times? Does she have mobility problems? Does she have a hard time telling time? Does she dislike eating in a social setting? Do the aides come to her room and invite her, but she refuses? Does she go to the dining room but then doesn't eat? What would it take to solve these issues? In other words, what is it that the Assisted Living Facility is going wrong/not doing? I don't imagine they stand in the dining room doorway and turn her away, but maybe the aides don't offer to help her to the dining room, or they take "no" for an answer without noticing that it is "no" over and over, or they are negligent in some other ways. Are you ever around at any mealtimes? Could you be?

Has Mom lost weight? How long has she been there?

If Mom would prefer to eat in her room, could she have the meal delivered to her (for an additional fee)?

Once you can identify the nature of the problem, discuss it with the staff. If it isn't corrected promptly, report it to the state's Ombudsman for care facilities.

This assumes you would like to keep her where she is. But if you have pictures of other problems, maybe you would just prefer to move Mom. What is the nature of the violations you have captured on film?

Also does she have dentures? If she does sometimes the gums shrink and even though they go in their mouth and stay there they can be loose.
if your mother has Alzheimer's, she may take longer to eat or have to have someone watch her eat. We pulled our 87 year old because she lost weight 18 lbs.
She takes an hour and a half to eat, some form of senior anorexia.

Start by moving your Mom, then take your photos to a lawyer

She is in the wrong type of facility. Get her to a nursing home, she is to feeble for assisted living and will die there. You are responsible to get her to a proper facility if you know she can't function there.

Our 87 year old goes for daycare, she doesn't eat and there, and they say it is not there job to monitor or make sure she is eating, we wanted some feedback since we know that it one of the problems... and one of our concerns also water drinking, if they do not have enough water they do not feel like eating.

I agree with pstiegman, but a nursing home doesn't do that either.

There are many posts on here along the lines of "My mother isn't eating! What should I do?" -- and those are from caregivers whose loved one lives with them! There can be many reasons that an elder doesn't eat enough, regardless of where they are. This may or may not be the care center's fault or responsibility. You mention pictures of other care center violations. What are those about?
