Find Care & Housing
I believe some cases of dementia are over-diagnosed by doctors. Sometimes it's actually the medicine (if they are on any) that can contribute to dementia symptoms. If he/she is taking any medication, you could look on the bottle and look on-line for side effects. In addition, bladder infections REALLY can cause confusion/dementia-like symptoms in elderly folks. Most drug stores sell at-home test kits for UTI infections. The cost is about $10.00 to $12.00, depending on where you live. Also, D-Mannose can help with UTI infections, and you can buy it at most health food stores. Unfortunately, though a lot of elderly folks do have some degree of dementia, and it is a really, really difficult situation. Hopefully, you can plan something for yourself, that will give you some time for your life. Sometimes, as a form of relaxation, I will look at web cams of beach places (mostly in CA) and other beach/resort areas, to sort of have a "vacation" from the caregiving.

Time for a break- force yourself at the very least to watch funny movies- something other than your pain. Unfortunately you aren't alone- its a full boat. I have one friend who cried last week because mom is "gone" - for the first time ever she didn't even recognize his presence in the room. He said he didn't want to go back. He is mourning now. I am sorry for your pain. Hugs!

Ditto....cept it's sertraline Somehow you need to try and find peace. Also, some days are just unbearable. That's when you take an hour for yourself and get it back together. Ha! I should take my own advice.
