Just remember these are Medicaid programs, you have to have less than $2K in the bank, and MERP will put a lien on the estate.

Thanks for your response! She is already on Medicaid with only SS as income and no assets. I understand the state will rightfully try to recoup what they can, but there is nothing to recoup. Unless you mean they will try to recoup the funds from me as the paid caregiver - eek - but nothing surprises me anymore!

I was hoping to get some feedback from any family participants of the AFL program. I have been the caregiver for many years and my mother lives with me. My preference has always been to care for her myself to ensure that she is safe and gets the best care, but I have had to work to support us. After an endless stream of unsatisfactory CNAs in the house, the program was mentioned to me. I will be meeting with the private agency that administers it, but I was just hoping to hear some experiences from family caregivers who have been part of the program first. Thanks to anyone who has any info.
