Find Care & Housing
So your mom is in a NH? If so how right now is her stay being paid - private pay, a Medicare paid post-hospitalization rehab benefit, LTC insurance?

If she doesnt have the funds or ltc insurance to pay or when the rehab benefit runs out, either they apply for Medicaid or family pays for their stay. Speak with admissions at her current facility to see IF they take Medicaid and what is needed for the application and if mom is likely to qualify to be "Medicaid pending"

Keep in mind Medicaid requires a co-pay (called their SOC - share of cost) of all their monthly income to the NH once they have done a spend-down to get to 2k in assets. They can keep a small personal needs allowance that runs from $35-105 a month (varies by state), this usually just covers beauty shop & some personal care products. So if mom has a home or other costs or debts, family has hard decisions to make. Good luck.

Probably yes, the Nursing Home is required to help you sort out the financial end of things. Ask them.
