Find Care & Housing
Ludwig, I know exactly what you are going through, my mom as well was starting not to like anything..and it came down to a lot of mac and cheese now she doesn't like that anymore. You just have to keep trying, find out what they do like and stick to that. My mom eats soups easily, so may try that. Can you elaborate more about her not liking the food. My mom has gotten to where she hardly eats at all, but some of that was due to a UTI..today I was shocked she ate a whole cup of homemade pea soup I just finished on the stovetop. You may want to try to add Ensure or some kind of drink like that to supplement. I give my mom a mega vitamin every few days as well to supplement. I give her a lot of fruit juices and gatorade sometimes a mix. My girlfriend had a great suggestion for Pedialyte for dehydration. Does she like scrambled eggs? That also is an easy one and of course mac and cheese or hamburger helper etc. Banana's are easy for them and I don't know if she will eat any prunes for you? Try foods from her childhood like comfort foods.

Yeah, mom ate both her little hen legs... Dad was going to cut a joke about them being babies. Had to stop him midstream, LORD knows I don't need her to cry about anything else. She's so proud of herself now, she's looking for the rest of the brownies, LOL

stillstanding: that is a great idea: bait and switch! I like it.

I also found out that Mom, who used to love cooking, was just not as interested. So my husband and I cook big pots of soup, and make huge casseroles and freeze small portions for her. She loves looking in her freezer and choosing a meal.
I think she has a good appetite, but even little things now seem overwhelming.

Lil, I have the same problem. However, I have found that, like last night, I baked some brownies to let her smell them all afternoon and told her that was dessert but the deal was she had to eat all her dinner. It worked a little better, and she ate more than usual. Cornish hens tonight, maybe she'll eat at least 1/2 of one! Yes, and dessert is waiting for her.

She is either having a reaction to a medication that may give her a funny taste in her mouth, has lost her appetite, or just wants to get a reaction out of you.
I would try to figure out what things are her favorites and make those...provided she is getting the proper nutrition (my Mom was eating instant mashed potatoes for every meal and telling me that she was eating a well balanced meal)
If she is just looking for attention. Prepare her a meal and set it in front of her, then leave the room. That way there is no one to "fuss" in front of.
Talk to her doctor if this continues. She may be having intestinal issues/blockage as well.
good luck
