Dad as Alzheimer's and is home bound. He needs to write his will. He has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and is home bound because of his physical state. He has finally agreed to have a will written. Is there such a thing as a Elder Care Lawyer who makes house calls? Or what other options are there for getting this done? We purchased a dyi kit but it is pretty much useless. Other options?

Find Care & Housing
Yes, there are some elder care attorneys who will come to your house. The challenge will be to find one. We were fortunate to have one who lived across the street. I know most people are not this lucky. If your father attends a certain church, they may have someone that will help. You can also try things like contacting your local Alzheimer's agency or other senior assistance groups. The attorney can help you complete the will and do your father's final directives. Fingers crossed you can find someone soon.

Would your Dad be able to go to the attorney's office to sign the will, because depending on your State, you will need to have witnesses who are not part of the will, usually the attorney will have his staff witness the signing.

If yes, maybe you can do the initial meeting with the attorney, get the paper work to be filled out [my attorney gave me 24 pages to fill out, OMG it's like having homework to do, again].... then the will can be drawn up.

Be careful with groups that you belong to. My sister retained an attorney that was a member of her church, just because. That attorney has been an absolute nightmare from day one! Did not even ask sis got a copy of trust documents or documentation required to change the trustee position from Mom to sis! Simply took sis at her word! Nothing was as it should have been according to Mom's wishes. Check out website AVVO to find attorneys in your area, see peer and client ratings, and ask question, receive reply at no charge.

Also, to find an attorney, just go the top of this page, the blue banner line, and click on "Money and Legal"... there's an area where one can find an Elder Law attorney in their area. That is how I found mine. She's expensive but well worth it.

Certainly a lawyer will come to the house, but not for free. You will be paying billable hours for the visit. Also bear in mind that the attorney will want to speak with dad privately, without prompting from family members.

Many times attorneys will send a junior partner or paralegal to gather information for preparation of the documents if appropriate for the financial situation. That would save a significant amount of money!
