At her next doc appt you can discretely ask them to do a cognitive test and urinalysis to check for a UTI (which can mimic dementia symptons or make dementia worse. Can be cleared up with antibiotics). This way she'll have a "baseline" and you'll have a better idea. Some people have gone to neurologists to get even more information and plan of how to deal with it but you may need a referral.
