I am using Cera Ve for her arms but the bruises take weeks to fade. Walgreens has bruise creams at twice the price. Is the bruise cream really effective?
Thanks in advance.

Elderly people bruise very easily. I had never tried the bruise cream on my mom who would bruise from falling. I did try it on my skin once. I don’t think that it made much of a difference, if any. The bruise remained.

I agree with Countrymouse, seek help from a medical professional.

Wishing you and your mom all the best.

It depends what you mean by effective.

If it's pain you're concerned about, there are topical gels which can help but DO NOT apply these without medical approval no matter what it says on the label (though I'm pretty sure it'll caution you to seek medical advice first anyway).

If it's skin integrity, although I don't know the Cera Ve brand, any emollient will help to prevent the skin from breaking. Monitor carefully, call a wound care nurse or a skin integrity nurse if in doubt.

If it just looks terrible, worse than it is, and the main problem is the heartsinking guilt you feel because your mother looks like a robbery-with-violence victim, I should leave well alone. High prices won't make the bruises fade any quicker.

Bruise creams seem to be Arnica-based and mostly aesthetic (" I was so embarrassed by all the bruising on my arms due to being on blood thinners") rather than therapeutic.

I can't imagine that any cream would work at the age of 94, as by then ones skin is so thin and fragile, that all you have to do is look at it wrong and it tears, bleeds, and bruises. I would save your money, and just keep her gentle moisturized with what you're using now.
