Does anyone have experience with a sensor floor mat? Any model/type you would recommend or not recommend? I need something to alert me to mom getting out of bed, but I am not ready to have a full time night sitter. I don't like the mattress pad because it alarms with normal movement. Thanks in advance for your expertise.

thank you, Needtowashhair! I had not thought of using motion sensors. Wonderful.

I don't have any experience with this specifically but it's no different from detecting a presence in any other application. I would put a motion detector under the bed pointing out. That way her legs swinging down would set off the detector. I have a home automation system so I would have that detection set off an action that would alert me. Be that a chime, a flashing light or a ringing phone.

A cheap way to see if this works is to try it with a self contained motion detector alarm. You may have to tape over the speaker a few times to turn down the volume from ear splitting to just alerting. You can find them for about $20. Many children's toys also have this functionality, look for "room guard". It alerts them to when their parents are sneaking up on them. :) You can also use a smartphone to do this as well but since it would have to work with visible light, you would need to have a light on. A dedicated motion detector sensor works on IR so needs no visible light.

findthehumor, I am moving your post closer to the front of the list. Hopefully a caregiver who has used a sensor floor mat can chime in.
