cvdebbie, when it was time for me to help Dad write checks and sort out his bills, eventually all I did was have his bills, bank statements, anything financial forwarded to my home address. Thus, Dad's name, my address.

Dad and I went to the bank, and Dad asked that my name be placed on the checks so I could pay his bills from his accounts only. The bank set the name on the check to read: "J. M. Smith or F. F. Smith-Jones", no address was printed on the checks. Had zero problems.

As ohboy had mentioned in their post, you are not responsible for your Dad's bills.

Exactly what I did. Worked perfectly for years.

NO!!! in fact, you shouldn't. You are not personally responsible for your parents past, present or future bills. You can change them to your address without them being in your name and you should always sign for any of their expenses clearly stating that you are POA (if that's the case) so that you are not personally responsible.
