I'm the caregiver for a person who has hearing problems(waiting for hearing aids) just went into hospice because he decided not to do chemo. Hospice nurse has told him twice in mu presance about it but he doesn't hear or understand her and doesn't ask inquire or anything. Today i brought the subject up and he finally heard me. So now i need to know if there is a difference in having lung cancer or having liver cancer metastasizing to the lung.

Maggie, you are correct. The cells will be of different origin and will have certain genetic mutations. Figuring out the origin and the mutations of the cell let doctors know the way to combat the cancer if it can be fought.

Cancer that has metastasized from the liver to the lung looks different under the microscope...and calls for different treatment. The microscope or lab tests look at the cancer cells in the lungs and identify the cancer as liver cells that have moved around the body rather than lung cells. I'm not a doctor. I believe this to be true.

That question about a difference in having lung cancer or having lung cancer metastasizing to the lung can only be answered by your client's Oncologist.

If you client is having issues with hearing, is he able to read? If yes, either hand write or use a device on which you and your client can type to communicate.
