I kind of agree with her husband and son. Why should she have to give up smoking now? She has lost so much. But sometimes there are valid reasons to try to reduce or eliminate smoking. Unless there are compelling reasons, I say let her smoke!

Bill, your wife's MIL is your mother. :) Sorry, couldn't resist kidding you. Do you mean your wife's brother's MIL or something along that line?

I agree but her son and husband feel its her last thing she has that she enjoys so they won"t stop buying her them. They took her license and she goes to a day out program, which she hates BC she cant smoke for 8hrs while she is there 2 days a week. But sure makes up for that not smoking once she is home lol Thanks

Why do you want her to reduce her smoking?

We wanted our mom to because of all the burn holes she had in everything. Also we knew it would be difficult if she needed to be in a care center. We helped her by switching to e-cigs. At least she wouldn't burn anything down! She was also hospitalized and had a patch to help. It took more than a year, but she had given up smoking completely by the time she went into a nursing home.

We were not concerned about the health aspects of smoking. She had dementia, which is a terminal disease. She would most likely die of it whether she smoked or not.

Bill, who is buying Mom her cigarettes? Whomever is running to the store, have them get cigarettes that Mom wouldn't like smoking, like unfiltered, or heavy tasting ones. Maybe she will quit on her own.
