We have started rationing her food and drink. In that we have her a full meal but only give her a small amount to eat on her own. She has very few teeth and those are very bad, so all of her meals are blended which makes them like thin mashed potatoes. This pocketing liquids scares me.
Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.

First this patient should have a swallowing evaluation, as dysphagia can lead to aspiration pneumonia and death.
Second her drinks should ALL be thickened with the product Thick It or the like, and all her foods pureed.
And third, perhaps it's best that someone actually takes the time to feed her, so they can better control what's getting in and she can't pocket the food.

I just read your profile - do you have any authority to actually get help for your friend: medical and/or financial POA, HIPAA clearance to speak to her doctors?

Or are you just asking for ideas from other caregivers about managing dysphagia?

Looking for advice mostly. I am with her 24/7. The POA is open to thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. Which is a major change from when I first started caring for her. So any advice for the day to day or things to ask the doctor, it's all helpful and appreciated.

A bit of a typo. She pouches.
She will hold liquids in her cheeks, under her tongue and sometimes the back of her mouth.

"This poaching liquids scares me"..... can you explain what this means, is it a typo?

Talk to your doctor, she needs an immediate evaluation by a qualified expert in dysphagia, in the US that is usually a speech and language pathologist.
