My husband is showing signs of dementia and has for a long time given up on doing much else but eating watching tv and being generally lazy. What the heck? Am I just heartless?
There is so much, so many things that this could be. Your first thing would be to have him have a full exam. The simple and vague description you give could describe my 7 year old grandson, or the 19 year old one. It could describe boredom, depression, dementia, and any number of other medical conditions.
Can you get him to the PCP for a full check up and cognitive exam as well? Then you'll know for sure if he's dealing with cognitive impairment vs. laziness, etc. I'm sure you're not a heartless wife.....just one who's looking for answers as to why her husband seems to have given up on life at such a young age! That's a fair question to have, too.
