Find Care & Housing
please be careful because if DCF or APS feel your moms own family is taking money they could assign public guardian through the courts which would be a nightmare if people aren't honest...please be careful for the one you love

Are you allowed to charge your mom, or use her money--a reasonable amount of rent for example? My electric bill has doubled due to oxygen and space heaters to keep her warm. I purchase special food for her that only she will eat. She requires panty liners, Tylenol, (the list gets pretty long). Do they (I am assuming Medicare if she has to go into a nursing home) come back on you for purchasing items that she would have had to pay for if she were still living in her home?

All I Have to Say is I had to write in BIG BOLD letters a sign to my sister.......
YOUR MOTHER IS ALIVE SHE"S NOT DEAD YET!!!!!
She talks about my Mothers assets or money that I went crazy trying to stretch out caring for "OUR MOTHER" as if it were hers (sister's) to decide where it went and had absolutely nothing to say but I can't help you this was your idea, and and the real killer is "YOU SHOULD BE THANKING ME!!!!" I did not take one cent of my mother's money to pay myself or use for my hard work. In fact when I went to the Medicaid application I forgot about a check I had gotten for the sale of Mom's car 200.00 I had the copy of the check and showed the proof of receiving it for the sale and I said I honestly spent that money on a weekend away with Mom... as I did. I knew it wouldn't be long until Mom won't be able to go anywhere without enjoying herself, I'll pay it back if I have to though! The lady said "I'm glad you did that for her." Smiled and I think she sensed my Love for my Mom and my sister's refusal to participate, other than her complaints, as I spoke to this woman repeatedly over a years time. I even said to her when we were done with application, our relationship is over.... Booo Hoooo I'll miss you LOL was a big joke I'm sure the woman was glad if she never heard from me again!!! I had the clearest most organized application free from questionable spending I think she ever saw. Three years later my sister still has an attitude. I don't care because my Mom is doing quite well thanks to me. My sister does not care to visit either.
I know I have a clear conscious ....how's my sister's????
All she lives with is her greed filled heart and I can't wait until she is called upon as Mom's executor and she has to hand over Mom's assets that she is waiting to get which totals just a lot of paperwork in which she has to go through me to get. Instead of doing the right thing my sister made sure my Mom (not in her right mind) made a will specifically excluding my brother and I as heirs. All she did was create a responsibility for herself to take care of debts that my Mother owes which is nothing but what's left over from funeral and life insurance and the small amount if any in her personal needs account. I don't want Mom to go but when she does....... Sister's going to hear "YOU SHOULD BE THANKING ME!!!!"
"I CAN'T HELP YOU!!!" "YOU WANTED THIS!!!" All this time I never got mad, but you can bet this will make it even!!! You should never worry about not getting what you think you deserve and start worrying about deserving what you get!!!!

My sister and her boyfriend did the same thing with my mother. They lived near by and my mother felt sorry for her and refused to let any of us go to the police about this or do anything else. Our hands were tied, since an attorney we spoke with told us that as long as our mother was in her right mind, there was nothing that could be done.
We tried to get our mother to sell her house and move closer to the rest of the family but she refused. And when we did get her to change the financial POA, our sister just had her change it back.
Good luck with your situation. We had no luck with ours.
