The head nurse said yes her PT said yes but hospital administration said NO. Please help if you have info if their is a legal ramifications for taking her out for short visits

I'm wondering if the difference of opinion between the head nurse and physical therapist vs. the nursing home administration. That's what it sounds like.

I'd ask the admin who denied the visit exactly what her position is and why. Go directly to the source.

Is your mother actually in a rehab facility?

Okay, in my mom's nh, if my brother is taking her out, he signs her out at the front desk, where the receptionist sits. How did "hospital administration " become involved?

The nursing home does not control this person. She is free to leave at any time. Tell daughter to stop asking permission and, instead, ask where the sign-out sheet is. If their patient will not be SAFE with the daughter, expect them to call the police.

"To ask permission is to seek denial". Someone told me that in my first year of my career. Stands me in good stead.

Thank you for your answers it's a huge help. She is In a nursing home and has PT everyday. And yes how did hospital admin get involved when they had permission from head nurse and PT. I think they know MOM is not happy there and we are seeking other options for her care.

At both NH my mom was in, residents could leave for lunch or dinner out, or shopping trips, dentist, even overnight visits if they were "common sense ambulatory" as the DON at NH # 2 put it! You will need to get any medications needed dispensed to you from the nurses station & will need a MPOA to sign out to do this. If they need a wheelchair, any equipment to transfer or O2 tank, you will need to provide those. Any equipment they are using, if billed to medicare or medicaid, seems to need to stay at the facility as per contract. So you do need to think & plan ahead on doing this.

If they are on Medicaid, it seems rules are they cannot be gone more than 2 nights. I took mom to 2 weddings with overnite stay with no issues.
