My dad was in a NH. They sent him to the ER.

Also keep in mind that the hospital is required to keep them until they do find a place that will accept him. Sometimes it takes week or even months. But also when they do find a place it might be quite a few miles away and may not be the best.

Unless you go & pick up your father from the hospital (so that his care & situation becomes your responsibility), the discharge planner at the hospital will be the one to find a new facility for dad if in fact the old NH will not take him back.

NH had to have a reason to transfer him to ER. If your his MPOA, you should ask nursing or social services staff to share with you what the reasons (ICD codes) were for his transfer visit to ER or hospital admission. It could be that the level of care dad needs is above what the old NH facility can provide. If he is now on higher level of psych meds, he may need a locked ward type of memory care facility which most NH are not. Really his chart & medical history will have the info needed to figure out what’s what.

DD1972, just curious, who do you know the current nursing home is communicating with other nursing homes regarding your father? What are the issues that are causing the current nursing home not to re-admit your Dad?
