I moved my dad with dementia into an assisted living facility about 1.5 weeks ago, and a few days ago, he stopped being angry about coming home but it has also coincided with him pooping on the floor. He's had some accidents few and far between in the past sure, but I've never seen him just pull his pants down, pop a squat, and poop on the carpet. The really odd part is, he knows where the bathroom is and I've instructed the staff to keep the door open with the lights on. He knows to go there on his own to pee, but when it comes to pooping, it seems he suddenly forgot that the toilet is also used for that. I call him to remind him to poop in the toilet and he says he know and once I called him in the act and he gave a weak excuse like "oh there was just a little bit I was cleaning up." Has anyone had experience with something like this? Could the move have been that disorienting for him that he's had a step function worsening in his dementia? I'm glad he's not talking about going home now but this is a bit much.

He needs full-time care and assistance with toileting every time he goes and likely diapers now, and memory care's the place for that.
