When I worked in a Memory Care ALF, we had a woman living there who was extremely rambunctious (to say the least). One day, when another resident was examining her hearing aid, this woman plucked it out of her hand and ATE it! Literally.
Sometimes I think hearing aids in residential care are more trouble than they're worth. Unless a person has about half a dozen sets of them on hand at any given time, that is. My mother is 90% deaf and refuses to even consider hearing aids. So everyone screams at the top of their lungs to be heard, and then she asks why everyone is yelling?
I have no suggestions for you except for everyone to SPEAK VERY LOUDLY when trying to converse with dad.
Glad has a good suggestion. There are tools that come with a hearing aid to get the wax out of the mold and tubing. It may just need a good cleaning. My husband has had earwax be problem. Be aware too that Dad's aids may need adjusting because he has lost more of his hearing. With digital aids they only go so high they will go only so low. After my husband went from analog to digital this was hard to adjust to.
My Moms hearing doctor told me that he had gone into a NH to check on a patient that was complaining about her hearing aides. Come to find out, there were no batteries in it. He walked out to the desk and told the Nurse you need to put batteries in the aid to make it work. Seems residents hearing aid were kept at the nurses station and no one thought about needing batteries changed.
