Mom lives in a MC facility. She has been in and out of the hospital then rehab for going on about 4 weeks and counting. Would it be out of line to expect some credit for medication, food and caregiving that wasn't required? I realize that her basic room rent should be paid since she hasn't moved out.
I feel like it doesn't hurt to ask, right?

It's depends on if you self pay or Medicaid pays.

Medicaid does not usually pay for Assisted Livings. If they do, OP would not be involved in the financial end other than to make sure the AL received the residents SS (and pension if it applies). So the OPs Mom is private pay.

Same with my mother. She had to be in the hospital/rehab for over 14 days to get a credit for the days over 14. It should be in Moms contract as said.

My father’s AL would credit the extras if he was out more than 14 days

Nope not going to happen. That's like asking the landlord to excuse a month of rent because you were in the hospital.

You should not be being charged for medications not given. However the room, board, medications SERVICE itself will be charged, as while they hold the bed they cannot accept another resident who can make us of and pay for these services.

Read mom's contract. This is almost certainly covered.
