Where can I get information on the costs of cremation?

I'm sure you can "Google" prices in your area, or call your local funeral homes/crematoriums. My husband was cremated in 2020, and the advertised price was $995, and then of course if you wanted an urn the price was more, and they charged $10 for each death certificate you wanted, which I only got three and only ended up actually needing one, as most places took a copy of it. Because we were going to scatter my husbands ashes, I opted for just their generic cardboard container, which they charged me $95 for.
So as you can see it's much less expensive than having someone buried.

My folks used The Neptune Society at a cost of approx $2500 per person, which includes pick up of the body from the place of death, cremation services, large memorial box with urn, photo frame with place for cremains, death certificates, notification to SSI, arrangements with funeral home for services (or with the cemetery, in our case military cemetery, all inclusive), and a bunch of other things I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. It's a bit more costly than other services but it's all inclusive in many ways. I've been very happy with them.

In my case in 2020, directly through a crematorium north of Chicago - $1500. Included: pick up and transport of body to crematorium, 7 certified copies of death certificate, notification of death to Social Security and a very nice engraved wooden box for the cremains. After the cremation, the wooden box was hand delivered to me at my home, which was very nice.

Rebecca, it all depends on what are the final wishes of the person, and hopefully the wishes are in writing.

Does the person want to have a viewing/wake and religious services? Does one want his/her ashes in an urn to be buried or placed in a special locked metal container at a cemetery? Does the person want his/her ashes scattered at a special location? Some items would require a funeral home, some would not.

For me, 2 years ago, no services and nothing special about disposal of ashes at sea,with 20 death certificates it was about 2,400 in total.

My ex was cremated thru a funeral home and it was 2300 that was 5 yrs ago. I agree, body should directly go to a crematorium. If not planning on any service. Most people have a memorial service later with the Urn. Funeral home does not need to be involved. Can have it in a Church, a hall...

I have prepaid my mother’s funeral costs (with her money). I did it through a local funeral home.

You need to contact crematoriums in your area.

Do not use a funeral home if you are only doing cremation, they don't do anything and double the bill.

I paid 600.00 for my nephew and 1,500.00 for my dad. Two different states and two different body weights.
