It is a challenge. I'm learning the hard way. Good days and not so good days. Thanks for the quick response.

I had a trying night tonight. Good days make the not so good days harder in my eyes. You get finally into a groove, think you got something figured out then wham, you find whatever it was that was working suddenly is not. Caregiving is so hard sometimes. You are right, it is a challenge.

I'm sorry you are learning the hard way. It's hard to know what to do the first time or even the second or third. Caregiving is always changing as the person you are caring for is continuing to change. So much flexibility, patience and unreturned kindness goes into being a caregiver.

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you making your not so good day seem further away.

Dear littlemisskitty,

You said it so well. That's how I felt before my dad passed. Its hard being in the trenches every day as a caregiver. We all wish we could be as bright and happy as Mary Poppins but it does get overwhelming. And depending on other family support it can be very isolating as well.

I lost my patience during the last year. One day I broke down and screamed like I have never before. I didn't learn how to ask for help and sooner. I needed to do something different but didn't know how. So I kept going and going on my own and only getting more impatient. I hope you do find some respite care and take some time for yourself as needed.

Thinking of you.
