Persons with low incomes that have children or dependents can file for the earned income credit. If you are paying for your parent's living expenses, you can claim them as a dependent and yourself as head or household. If their only income is Social Security...which they give you to pay for the care you give them...as in CNA type of care....and you claim it as income....pay taxes on it...can you qualify for an earned income credit?

If the person is your dependent you may be able to, but there are too many variables here. You should talk with a tax specialist. If you support an adult dependent child and are low income, you can claim the earned income credit, so it would make sense that if your parent qualifies as your dependent, you could, but I would get individualized advice from a tax specialist first. You don't want to make a mistake here. Good luck,
Carol
